Heather Joan Sonn is a leading South African business woman, big-thinker, and change-maker, currently based in Cape Town, SA.
She is a Director of Gamiro Holdings, an investment company with interests in the renewable energy, financial services and property development sectors.
Heather started her career as an investment banking analyst in New York focused on global branded consumer goods and leveraged buy-outs. She worked for one of the largest investment management firms in South Africa in operations, management information systems, strategy and business development. She served as the CEO of a stock-broking firm in Johannesburg and the Deputy CEO of the largest women’s investment group in South Africa. She has held senior executive positions in investment management in South Africa and in commercial and retail banking in London.
Educated in South Africa and the United States of America, Heather holds a BA in Politics from Smith College in Massachusetts and an MSc (International Affairs) from Georgetown University in Washington D.C.
She is a Director of Reinsurance Group of America in South Africa and of GreenCape, an organisation formed to support and promote the growth of the green economy in South Africa. She has oversight responsibility for the South African Renewable Energy Masterplan process and is a trustee of the World Wildlife Foundation of South Africa.
She is a fellow of the second class, Kilimanjaro of the Africa Leadership Initiative and is a Moderator for The Aspen Institute.
