As Keseb’s Manager of Fellowship, Aqeelah works closely with the Partner responsible for the Fellowship initiative in developing and executing the Fellowship’s cohort selection, program of events, learning, and cross-country collaboration. She also supports Keseb’s leadership on a range of strategic goals.
Before joining Keseb, Aqeelah worked on Environmental Justice and Indigenous Peoples Rights at International Rivers as the Communications and Campaigns Coordinator for the Africa Program. She worked with the Ovaherero people of Kaokoland (modern day Namibia and Angola) on a Bio-Cultural Protocol to assist the community in opposing destructive development projects and better engage state governance structures. Her other areas of focus were advocacy, knowledge production and data visualization.
Aqeelah started her career at Lawyers for Human Rights in Refugee and Migrant Rights. She also worked for the Parliamentary Monitoring Group in South Africa. She has a Law degree and a degree in International Relations from the University of Cape Town.
